Calligraphy is the most personal artwork in a Pakistani home. It carries meaning first and decoration second, so the choice of verse matters as much as the frame.
This guide covers the verses most often chosen, the sizes that suit drawing rooms and entrances, and how to judge a hand-painted panel.
Choosing the verse
Families often choose Surah Ya-Sin for blessing, An-Nur (the Verse of Light) for living spaces, Al-Mulk for protection, and the Hawqala — La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah — for entrances. Our calligraphy panels list the verse, transliteration and translation on every product page.
Size and placement
Proportion matters more than price.
- Square panels around 89 × 89 cm suit a wall above a sofa or console
- Tall pieces around 130 cm work in double-height entrances and stairwells
- Hang the centre at roughly 150 cm from the floor
- Place above eye level and away from bathrooms and floors, as a matter of respect
Judging quality
Hand-painted calligraphy shows slight variation in stroke weight and raised texture in gilding; printed pieces are perfectly flat. Look at the frame corners — a good gilt frame has tight mitres and no gaps. Pair a panel with a console table and a table lamp beneath it for a finished wall.
